KUWAIT, May 5 (KUNA) -- 1793 -- The headquarters of the British East India Company transfers from Basra to Kuwait.
1871 -- Governor of Baghdad Medhat Pasha visits Kuwait to express gratitude, on behalf of the Ottoman Empire, for the military supplies it offered the Turkish army while the latter subdued Al-Ehsa'a province. He presented medals and the Ottoman state flag to Kuwait's fifth ruler, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Sabah, on this occasion.
1962 -- "Adhwa' Al-Kuwait" newspaper was issued with Yaqoub Al-Rushaid as its editor-in-chief.
1974 -- Kuwait Judo and Taekwondo Federation was established.
1974 -- Sheikh Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was elected Chairman of Kuwaiti Olympic Committee. He remained in this post until his martyrdom on August 2, 1990.
1992 -- A car loaded with explosives was detonated in Yarmouk on the 4th Ring Road, opposite Kuwait University, causing damage to the house of the car's owner, brother of Dean of Medicine Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer, and other neighboring houses.
1992 -- Kuwaiti Charge d'Affaires in India Miteb Al-Rumaih survived an assassination attempt.
2002 -- First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah inaugurates Kuwait's first iron manufacturing factory, with an annual production capacity of 450,000 tons.
2008 -- The Cabinet approves changing name of Al-Miseelah area to Sheikh Salem Sabah Al-Salem area, in appreciation for his efforts and service to Kuwait. (end) hb
