KUWAIT, Aug 3 (KUNA) -- 1990 -- The Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held, in Cairo, an emergency session during which it condemned the brutal Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and called on Iraq to withdraw its troops unconditionally from Kuwaiti territory. It also called on the Arab League's member states to stand united, adhering to the principles and spirit of the Arab League Charter to end the aggression and restore Kuwait's territorial integrity.
1990 -- The Arab League denounced, during an extraordinary session in Cairo, the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. It called on Iraq to withdraw from the country immediately and unconditionally. Some 14 Arab countries approved a resolution condemning the aggression. Jordan, the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Sudan, Mauritania and Yemen expressed reservations, Libya did not take part in the meeting and Iraq boycotted it.
1990 -- His Highness the (late) Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued a decree-into-law banning trade in Kuwait's crude oil and byproducts except through relevant authorities of the legitimate Kuwaiti Government.
1998 -- Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Housing Affairs Jassem Al-Oun appointed Dr. Nouriah Al-Kharafi and Kawthar Al-Joaan as members of the board of directors of Al-Ardhiya Cooperative Society, in the first such step of naming Kuwaiti women in ranking positions in this sector.
2010 -- The 20th Gulf water games tournament was opened in Kuwait.
2010 -- The Kuwaiti fencing team won eight gold medals, four silver and four bronze ones in the Gulf juniors' championship, held in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
2010 -- The Kuwaiti sailing team won the third international competition, hosted by Morocco. The Kuwaiti champion, Saud Al-Masoud, won in the laser category. His fellow citizen, Ahmad Al-Failakawi, was first in the laser radial competition.
2012 -- The Amiri Diwan condemned abusive remarks on electronic social media, targeting Prophet Mohammad's (PBUH) grandsons, Al-Hassan and Al-Hussein.
2012 -- Firefighters put out fire that broke out at a wood scrap yard in Amghara. Nine firemen were injured while putting out the blazes.
2013 -- The World Health Organization (WHO) delivered USD five million to Jordan. The sum was granted by Kuwait for aiding low-income Jordanians and Syrian refugees hosted by the country.
