KUWAIT, July 3 (KUNA) -- 1963 -- Mali's first Ambassador to Kuwait presented credentials to the Amir, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.
1972 -- The Cabinet issued an order whereby in state tenders, priority was given to local products and services, provided they comply with Kuwait standards.
1973 -- His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, issued an Amiri Decree establishing the Faculty of Medicine in Kuwait University.
1986 -- The National Assembly was dissolved after one year and four months of its sixth legislative term. The Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who ordered the dissolution, said the continuation of "parliamentary life under current circumstances" would jeopardize Kuwait's national unity and undermine the country's interests.
1986 -- His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, issued an Amiri Order amending some articles of Publications Law 3/1961. Accordingly, a newspaper may be suspended for no more than two years or its license might be revoked by the Cabinet if the publication was found to be serving the interests of a foreign country or authority, or if its printed stories were found to be conflicting with national interests, or should it be found to be receiving any form of support without the knowledge of the Ministry of Information. The Minister of Information might also suspend a publication for no more than three months.
1994 -- Kuwait Union for Women's Societies was proclaimed, under chairmanship of Sheikha Latifa Fahad Al-Salem Al-Sabah, spouse of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.
1999 -- Kuwait's ninth parliamentary elections were held with a total of 288 candidates competing in 25 constituencies. Of the 112,882 eligible voters, 91, 126 cast their ballots, bringing turnout to 81.7 percent.
2001 -- Kuwaiti athlete Fawzi Dahash won the bronze medal in the 400-meter race at the 39th Military World Championship, held in Lebanon.
2008 -- Kuwait, represented by Secretary General of Kuwaiti Municipality Workers Syndicate Mohammad Al-Arada, was elected, uncontested, as Chair of the Executive Council of the Arab Municipalities and Tourism Workers' Union, during the general assembly meeting in Cairo. (end) rk
