KUWAIT, Aug 2 (KUNA) -- 1990 -- Iraqi troops invaded Kuwait and seized the Amiri palace in a surprise early dawn attack. The Ministry of Defense issued a statement demanding the immediate halt of aggression and pullout of Iraqi troops. Iraq alleged that this aggression was in response to pleas by the Kuwaiti people.
1990 -- Addressing the Kuwaiti people, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah said Kuwait was facing a brutal invasion by "enemies of love and peace," and stressed that the occupying forces must be fought back and driven out of Kuwaiti territory.
1990 -- The UN Security Council, condemned in a unanimous vote, the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in an emergency meeting after calls by Kuwait and the US. Resolution 660 was issued calling for the withdrawal of all Iraqi forces to their pre-August positions.
1990 -- Sheikh Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who was known for having taken part alongside Egyptian forces in the 1967 Arab-Israeli War, was martyred at the age of 45. He was shot dead by the Iraqi forces while defending Kuwait. He was known for heading and being a member of many sports bodies around the Arab region, Asia and the world, including the post of Olympic Council of Asia President.
1998 -- Kuwait Fencing Team for the Handicapped snatched the gold medal in international competitions in Germany.
2001 -- Kuwait was charged with the administrative and financial monitoring for the years 2001-2004 by the Executive Council of the Arab Atomic Energy Authority.
2005 -- Kuwait Stamp and Currency Collectors Society was declared.
2005 -- Kuwait Libraries and Information Society was established.
2005 -- Kuwait Society for Families of the Handicapped was declared.
2005 -- Kuwait Health Volunteering Society was declared.
2006 -- Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah issued an order establishing the Union of Insurance Companies.
2008 -- Kuwait claimed first place in Gulf juniors and youth championship for Judo held in Doha.
2009 -- Minister of Health Hilal Al-Sayer inaugurated the pre-marriage medical checkup facility in Al-Sabah medical area.
2010 -- Kuwaiti junior Judokas win two gold medals and two silver in the Gulf championship in Khobar, Saudi Arabia.
2011 -- The Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAF) announced a windbreak project in the north and northwest regions of Kuwait to develop the country's capabilities in facing natural disasters. (end) gta
