KUWAIT, May 1 (KUNA) -- -- 1890 -- Waves of lcusts wiped out Kuwaiti farms and filled water wells.
1952 -- Lights flooded Safat Square, in a step towards expanding the use of electricity in the country.
1965 -- "Al-Wa'e Al-Islami" (Islamic Awareness) magazine was issued by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.
1970 -- The first issue of "Al-Majales" weekly magazine hit the stands, with Hedaya Abdullah Al-Salem as its editor-in-chief.
1977 -- Inauguration of Ras Al-Ardh and Bneid Al-Gar clubs.
1979 -- Inauguration of Fahaheel Club.
1980 -- The Ministry of Planning declared Kuwait's population at 1,355,827.
1980 -- Addan Hospital inaugurated.
1982 -- The start of "Al-Manakh" (stock exchange) crisis.
1984 -- MP Ahmed Fahad Al-Tukhaim grilled Minister of electricity and water, Khalaf Ahmed Al-Khalaf, on shortage of water reaching homes in Bayan.
1990 -- Law 31/1990 was issued to organize the stock exchange operations and establish investment funds.
1997 -- Essa Al-Hamad Al-Mijrin, a pioneer of Kuwait's sports movement, passed away at the age of 67.
1999 -- Ministry of Interior issued regulations banning children under age of 10 from sitting in front car seats.
2000 -- The carpets and currency exchange section of the old market was re-opened.
