KUWAIT, Feb 1 (KUNA) -- 1956 -- The telephone and cables department is nationalized.
1958 -- The first government mail office opens near the Finance Department, located at Safat Square.
1959 -- The government takes charge of external mail services after approval of the British government. In 1960, it joins the International Mail Union.
1970 -- The first edition of "Al-Mualem" (teacher) magazine is published by Kuwait Teachers' Association.
1977 -- The first edition of the English-language daily "Arab Times" is issued.
1979 -- Health Minister Abdulrahman Al-Awadhi inaugurates the hereditary diseases' center.
1986 -- The first edition of "Al-Arabi Al-Sagheer" is published by the Information Ministry.
2005 -- The National Assembly approves a government bill on confiscation of arms and ammunition.
2008 -- Actor Khalil Ismael dies at the age of 61. (end) rk
