ISTANBUL, Dec 8 (KUNA) -- Turkish authorities have tightened security around the consulates of the US and Israel after US President Donald Trump's decision to declare Jerusalem the capital of "Israel".
Turkish police closed some roads leading to the American consolate and put new barriers around it, said Turkish news agency (Ikhlas).
Snipers were deployed at the US consulate headquarters in conjunction with security measures taken, the news agency added.
Turkish police also deployed rapid intervention forces at the entrance of the consulates and in the surrounding area in anticipation of any emergency.
Last Wednesday, US President Trump announced his country's recognition of the city of Jerusalem as the capital of "Israel" and ordered the start of measures to transfer US embassy to Jerusalem in a move contrary to US policy in the region for decades. (end) ta.mk.nhq
