WASHINGTON, Jan 4 (KUNA) -- The US on Wednesday expressed "deep concern" that renewed fighting in Libya would benefit the so-called Islamic State and other groups.
The fighting in Libya's central region is of concern, said State Department spokesman John Kirby, particularly as government forces have made gains against IS in Sirte and eastern Libya.
"We continue to encourage all parties to support the government of National Corp, GNA as it's known, as it works to address the country's critical challenges to preserve its unity," he said.
He also urged support of the GNA's plans for a transition towards peaceful elections according to the Libyan political agreement. (end) sd.ibi
