VIENNA, Dec 6 (KUNA) -- Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi on Tuesday said that no party could back away from the nuclear deal signed in 2015 between his country and world powers.
Salehi's statement came during an exclusive interview with KUNA on the sidelines of the 2nd International Conference on Nuclear Security.
The Iranian official touched on the future of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in light of the election of Donald Trump as a US president, and recent sanctions the US imposed on Tehran, saying that the deal will not be changed. The deal is commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal.
Meanwhile, the Iranian official underscored the importance of the ongoing conference to consolidate the relevant international efforts.
The conference aims to urge the world countries to seriously take the possibility that potential terrorist threats can target all of them, he said.
With the rising phenomenon of terrorism worldwide and the growing fears that terrorists could obtain radioactive materials, the international community is demanded, today more than ever, to effectively cooperate in order to dissipate such fears, said the official.
In the meantime, the Iranian official lauded the 'distinguished' ties between Iran and the State of Kuwait, saying that Tehran is ready to boost cooperation with the GCC on nuclear issues.
He proposed the formation of an Iranian-Gulf committee to study, and discuss the nuclear-related topics of concern to the region.
Salehi noted that Iran could offer the GCC countries various services on establishing nuclear stations. (end) amg.msa
