NEW YORK, Sept 19 (KUNA) -- Foreign Ministers of the GCC countries have greatly appreciated His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's keenness to create a suitable environment for Yemeni talks, hosted by Kuwait between April and August.
His Highness the Amir's meeting with the Yemeni parties participating in UN-sponsored negotiations reflected his "desire to create all (suitable) circumstances for the success of the consultations" among the Yemeni parties, said the ministers.
The top diplomats, in a statement following their meeting at the Saudi Mission to the UN late Sunday, commended Kuwait for providing all types of facilities to bring about success of the talks, which ended on August 7.
They reiterated support for the UN Secretary General's Envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Sheikh Ahmad's mediation efforts, and welcomed the Yemeni government's approval of UN-proposed peace agreement which called for withdrawal from Sanaa, Taez and Hudaida.
They said the agreement, rejected by Ansarullah and the General People's Congress (GPC), would pave the way for the initiation of a political dialogue 45 days after signature.
They urged countries sponsoring peace in Yemen to exercise pressure on Ansarullah and GPC to sign the agreement, in order to achieve settlement in Yemen based on the GCC initiative and its implementation mechanism, UN resolution 2216 and outcome of the national dialogue.
They rejected the formation of so-called political council by Ansarullah and GPC because it would hamper any political solution and was even in violation of UN resolution 2216.
The foreign ministers, including Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, welcomed UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's lifting of the Arab coalition from the list of entities responsible for violence against children in Yemen.
They confirmed that the Saudi-led Arab coalition, which was supporting the legitimate leadership in Yemen, was carrying out its military operation in line with the international law.
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, they said, were big contributors to the humanitarian operations taking place in Yemen, the rebuilding of the conflict-ridden country and embarking on a program to rehabilitate the economy of the Arab country.
The foreign ministers urged Ansarullah and forces loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh to abide by international agreements that banned the use of gas against civilians, stop the torture and kidnapping. (end) mao.bs.rk
