ABU DHABI, Nov 29 (KUNA) -- The United Arab Emirates will be observing Martyrs Day on Monday, as gratitude for those who sacrificed their lives for a noble cause and dignity of the nation.
Residents and citizens in the UAE are reminded to be respectful on this day as dignified commemorative events will take place around the UAE, under the auspices of government institutions.
The UAE flag will be lowered at half-mast across the country and it will be followed by a one-minute silence and supplication.
This day is to remember and honor those who have given their lives for the UAE, and remind the families of those who have been martyred that the UAE has not forgotten them or their sacrifices, said Media Professor at UAE University dr. Hassan Qayed said.
UAE has given many martyrs through their participation in Operation Decisive Storm and Restoration of Hope Operation in yemen, he said.
For his part, UAE poet Sohail Alkatiri in a similar statement to KUNA expressed his pride for the work done by UAE in celebrating the martyrs and remembering their sacrifices.
This day will be an opportunity to identify the young generations with the heroic role of the martyrs, he added.
The UAE government has announced five days holiday commencing from tomorrow till Saturday where the President of the UAE Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued a decree making November 30 an annual public holiday in the UAE. (end) asa.mjz.ss
