KUWAIT, Nov 16 (KUNA) -- Yousef Khaled Al-Mekhled Al-Mutairi, one of Kuwait's veteran legislators, passed away on Monday.
The deceased was an iconic parliamentary personality who had worked with fellow activists, many years ago, for laying the country's basis of democracy and "constitutional life." One of his major initial political activities was his participation in the formation of the "constituent council," following Kuwait Independence. He had served in up to five legislative assemblies.
Al-Mutairi, born in Sharq in 1923, was a member of the first legislative body, the "constituent council" between 1962 and 1963.
When the National Assembly (the Parliament) was established replacing the council, Al-Mutairi served as member in the 1963-1967, 1967-1970, 1971-1975, 1975-1976 and 1985-1986 legislative terms. (end) aas.tb.rk
