AMMAN, July 6 (KUNA) -- In a sudden and major offensive, the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants recaptured the town of Ain Issa, 50 kilometers north of the group's Syrian bastion of Al-Raqqa, two weeks after it fell to Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG).
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) added that the ISIL militants also have also managed to regain control over the strategic town of Sherkrak in addition to several other villages between Sherkrak and the west sides of Hasakah governorates.
It added that dozens of Kurdish YPG fighters were killed and scores others injured in the fierce battle.
Over 37 ISIL militants were killed while 46 others were wounded by the US-led coalition airstrikes on Al-Raqqa and Hasakah, it stated. (end) tk.ibi
