KUWAIT, June 26 (KUNA) -- Kuwaitis stand together in face of sedition targeting their country's national unity, security and stability, said Kuwait News agency (KUNA) Board Chairman and Director General Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij Al-Sabah on Friday.
In a statement on the aftermath of the terrorist attack that hit Imam Al-Sadiq Mosque downtown Kuwait earlier today, Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij said that those behind the blast would not manage to achieve their "sordid" goals in attempt to fragment the Kuwaiti social fabric.
According to recent official figures, a total of 27 people were killed and 227 injured.
Terming the attack a "criminal act," Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij said the blast did nothing but solidify Kuwaitis' national bond under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
He added that Kuwait is not at guard from regional threats that aim at undermining its domestic front, yet is fully capable of overcoming them thanks to the wisdom of its leadership and steadfastness of its people.
The KUNA chief also stressed the role played by both the official and private media outlets in dousing sedition and maintaining social order so as to thwart attempts to divide community. (end) abd.hb
