ISLAMABAD, Feb 18 (KUNA) -- At least eight Taliban rebels were killed in a United States-led drone strike in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan on Wednesday, said officials.
Police commander of the 301st eastern border zone, Col. Ayub Hussainkhel told media that the drone fired a missile in the Fathi Khani locality of Khogyani district in Nangarhar.
He claimed that a leading Taliban commander, Noor Khan was among the dead. According to local media reports, death toll could rise as several rebels were injured in the strike.
The drone strike came at a time when Afghan security forces have paced up operations against the Taliban rebels following the withdrawal of NATO/ISAF forces from Afghanistan. (end) sbk.mt
