KUWAIT, Sept 2 (KUNA) -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has been named "humanitarian leader" by the UN for his success in handling crucial issues, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce and Industry Abdulmohsen Al-Madaj, has said.
During a tour to two schools, formerly kindergartens, in the Ali Sabah Al-Salem neighborhood on Tuesday, Al-Madaj, also Acting Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education, highlighted the initiatives by the Amir worldwide support the victims of conflicts and allay their sufferings.
"We are proud that the Amir has received such honoring, only awarded to very few of the world leaders," the Minister said. "The Ministry of Education, in cooperation with other official bodies, has prepared for nationwide celebrations on that occasion dear to all Kuwaitis." He also stressed the prominent role by the His Highness the Amir in backing education in Kuwait and the region, saying that he follows in the footsteps of his predecessors offering all forms of assistance to develop education.
The UN has recently named Kuwait "a global humanitarian center" and His Highness the Amir a "humanitarian leader". The Amir will receive the honor at the UN headquarters in New York on September 9.
Meanwhile, in his capacity as Acting Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education, Al-Madaj said that turning two kindergartens to hi schools in only 10 days is a great achievement.
He explained that the two hi schools are now ready to receive female students temporarily till their schools, who are under-construction, are accomplished. Moving the young to other kindergartens will not have the least impact on them, he said.
Sufferings of the district hi school female students lasted for long years as they had to move to Fahaheel area, but now this came to an end MP Abdulla Al-Tamimi said MP Hamoud Al-Hamdan expressed gratitude to Minister Al-Madaj for the decision of turning the two nursery schoolsinto two secondary ones.
For his part, Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Fawaz Al-Sabah appreciated the rapid response of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, to the decision providing the required funds needed for the two schools.
