BRUSSELS, May 25 (KUNA) -- The League of Muslims in Belgium Sunday condemned as "barbaric " the shooting of three people at the Jewish Museum in Brussels yesterday. One person was seriously injured.
"These crimes with racist and anti-Semitic accents are unfortunately likely to reverse in our country the efforts of all those who, on a daily basis, are working for a society where everyone, regardless of his religious and philosophical beliefs, can live in dignity and respect," said the League in a statement.
It called on the various religious, political and societal actors to come together to promote living together and fight against racism and hatred.
The League called on the competent authorities in Belgium to shed light on this terrible tragedy and punish the perpetrators firmly.
Meanwhile, the US Ambassador to the EU , Anthony Gardner , in a statement expressed " shock and sadness " over the shooting at the Jewish Museum .
"We are outraged by this senseless killing and express our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those killed or wounded," he added. (end) nk.hb
