(with photo) GENEVA, Nov 1 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait donated USD 604,000 to the Islamic Cultural Center in Switzerland to build two projects in La Chaux-de-Fonds, west of the country.
Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the United Nations Office Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghunaim told KUNA that this kind of donation is not new to Kuwait; a country that always strives to inform communities across the world about Islam, its moderate values and its role in building civilizations.
Undersecretary of the center Mohammad Karmous lauded Kuwaiti support to Islamic centers in Europe and, especially, in Switzerland. He noted that the financial aid will help construct two projects: a museum and a mosque with an adjacent school.
The projects aim at familiarizing the non-Muslims with the Islamic culture, its moderate values and practices. They will focus on building channels of dialogue and encourage mutual respect of religion so that people from different religious backgrounds will be able to live in peace and harmony.
These projects, he noted, will allow the center to achieve progress in its endeavors to support Muslim communities and clear any misconceptions about Islam.
Since its inception in 1999, the center has been organizing classes for teaching Arabic language, holding lectures on Islamic culture and history and discussing common issues facing Muslim communities in Europe. (end) ta.nfm KUNA 011730 Nov 13NNNN
