WASHINGTON, Aug 27 (KUNA) -- US Vice President Joe Biden spoke by phone on Tuesday with Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Nick Clegg to discuss their "grave concern" about the reported use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime against civilians near Damascus last Wednesday, the White House announced.
"The United States and the United Kingdom strongly oppose the use of chemical weapons, and the Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister pledged to continue to consult closely on potential responses by the international community," the statement said.
This comes after US Secretary of State, in a press conference on Monday, directly accused the Syrian government of carrying out the chemical attack which killed hundreds of people in Ghouta, an area east of the capital Damascus.
President Obama "will be making an informed decision about how to respond to this indiscriminate use of chemical weapons," he said, referring to a possible upcoming military strike against the Syrian regime.
Meanwhile, Britain is also weighing the option of a military strike, with Prime Minister David Cameron having called on the House of Commons to make an informed decision on whether or not to go ahead with the move. (end) rm.sd KUNA 272208 Aug 13NNNN
