(with photos) KUWAIT, May 6 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Women Federation announced Monday that official launch of the first league for women would take place next Thursday, in three sports, Basketball, Table Tennis, and athletics.
The President of the federation Sheikha Naima Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said, in a press conference at the Kuwaiti Olympic Committee, that the first league will be the right start for women in sport, through participation of all women clubs.
Sheikha Naima added that the clubs, Al-Oyon, Salwa, and Al-Fatat, will compete in the league, along with Qadsia, Yarmouk and Al-Jahra clubs The league will officially start on May 9th, accompanied by a media campaign through various media.
The Table Tennis competitions will include the five previously mentioned clubs, and will last until May 14th.
In Basketball, the three women clubs will participate along with Qadsia, and this league will end on May 25th.
As for athletics, it will be only for one day on May 18th, Sheikha Naima said.
The short period of the league was due to the exams period to students which takes place this month and next, Sheikha Naima explained.
Sheikha Naima thanked Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah for his support to women sports and keenness to serve sport in general. (end) js.mb KUNA 062039 May 13NNNN
