TEHRAN, Sept 9 (KUNA) -- Lakhdar Ibrahimi, the special envoy of the United
Nations and the Arab League for Syria, will visit Iran soon, a Foreign
Ministry official announced on Sunday.
Mehr news agency quoted Abbas Arakji, the assistant foreign minister, as
saying that the international envoy would visit Tehran after his mission in
Syria.
He reiterated Tehran's stance regarding the Syrian crisis, stressing that
the question should be resolved peacefully, noting that the Iranian foreign
minister had told Ibrahimi that Tehran favored a Syrian-Syrian solution to the
cause.
Ibrahimi, known as a veteran international trouble-shooter, succeeded the
former UN chief, Kofi Annan, for the hard task after the latter quit the
mission in August. (end)
