PARIS, Aug 6 (KUNA) -- France on Monday condemned an attack by gunmen against an Egyptian border post in the Sinai and urged Cairo to exert control over the region.
Sixteen Egyptian border guards were killed by the gunmen who later crossed over into Israel and the Jewish State says it apprehended some of the gunmen, killing five of them.
"France is deeply concerned by the deterioration of the security situation in the Sinai," a statement said here.
The Foreign Ministry said that Paris was calling "on the Egyptian authorities to retake control of the region and has noted the commitment in this direction made by Egyptian president Mohammad Morsi." Egyptian authorities have vowed to avenge the attacks against their forces and bring those responsible to justice. (end) jk.hb KUNA 061612 Aug 12NNNN
