LONDON, Aug 3 (KUNA) -- Tunisia's Oussama Mellouli was the only Arab swimmer, out of a total eight, who made it through their heat qualifications at the London Olympics, while Iraq's Dana Abdulrazak made it to the next round of the 100m athletics.
Mellouli - in heat 4 of the men's 1,500m freestyle - achieved a time of 14mins, 46.23secs, the second fastest time in all heats and trailing only to China's Yang Sun by 2.98secs.
In the women's 100m, Dana Abdulrazak came second in her heat, with a time of 11.91secs.
The Iraqi goes into round one of the event later today, facing a tough test from two-time Olympic silver-medalist in the 200m US runner Allyson Felix.
Meanwhile, Arab women in the swimming 50m freestyle all crashed out of their heats.
Kuwait's Faye Sultan, who took part in the Games as the first Kuwaiti female swimmer in history, came second to last in hers, thus crashing out of the tournament, with swimmers from Qatar, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Sudan and Palestine all following suit in their respective heats.
Tunisia's Faicel Jaballah was knocked out of the men's over 100kg Judo by France's Teddy Riner, with Morocco's El Mehdi Malki meeting the same fate, both after making it to the Round of 16.
