AMMAN, July 24 (KUNA) -- Jordan is not a party in the domestic conflict in Syria and is currently preparing 22 camps, each to receive 5,000 Syrian refugees, prime minister Fayez Tarawneh said Tuesday.
"Jordan's political position is clear and it is not a party in the Syrian domestic conflict," Tarawneh said in an interview with state-run news agency (Petra).
He hoped the conflict in Syria would be solved peacefully in order to stop the bloodletting.
"We in Jordan are calculating our positions and interest very carefully and calmly and away from tension," said the prime minister.
The Syrian conflict "is like the chaos caused by the Arab Spring which has negative impacts on the countries and on tourism and investments," he added.
Due to the growing number of Syrian refugees, said Tarawneh, the Jordanian government was setting up 22 camps each to contain around 5,000 people.
All Syrian refugees in Jordan would be relocated to these camps, away from residential areas, he explained.
Official Jordanian figures showed that around 150,000 Syrians have fled to Jordan. (end) ab.bs KUNA 242137 Jul 12NNNN
