BAGHDAD, July 14 (KUNA) -- Five Iraqi soldiers and three policemen were killed and seven others were injured in two separate attacks in Iraq on Saturday.
Gunmen riding a speeding car opened fire at a military checkpoint in Al-Rashidiya neighborhood to the north of the northern city of Mosul, killing five soldiers and injuring two others, a security source told KUNA.
The army sent additional troops to the area, cordoned off the scene of the attack and started tracking down the attackers.
Meanwhile, a roadside bomb went off as a police patrol was passing by to the east of Falloujah city in the southwestern governorate of Al-Anbar, according to a local police officer.
The blast left three policemen dead and four others injured seriously.
The security services rushed to the area and blocked the roads leading to it for fear of other explosive devises while the wounded persons were rushed to a nearby hospital. (pickup previous) mhg.gb KUNA 142159 Jul 12NNNN
