ALGIERS, July 12 (KUNA) -- The first session of Kuwaiti-Algerian Committee for sea-water desalination kicked off here on Thursday, with aim of studying desalination projects, besides establishing cooperation between the two countries in this strategic field.
The head of projects' of and water distillation units at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity and Water, Mohammad Rashid Al-Bahho, told KUNA that the meeting was attended by experts from both countries, with the presence of Kuwaiti Ambassador to Algeria Faisal Saud Al-Deweesh.
They discussed means of exchanging expertise between the two nations in this field, while the Kuwaiti delegation reviewed the history of the the Kuwaiti experience in sea water desalination, considered the oldest in the region.
The two sides talked over various desalination techniques, as well as means of executing projects between the two nations.
The Algerians explained their experience in the field, which mainly relies on reverse osmosis.
The Committee work program also included field trips to water desalination plants, and water dams in Algeria, besides holding meetings with local officials in order to learn how those plants operate.
This meeting is held upon a memorandum of understating signed between the two sides during the sixth session of the joint Kuwaiti-Algerian Ministerial Committee.
Reverse osmosis (RO) is a membrane-technology filtration method that removes many types of large molecules and ions from solutions by applying pressure to the solution when it is on one side of a selective membrane. (end) ft.lb KUNA 121327 Jul 12NNNN
