KUWAIT, Feb 29 (KUNA) -- UNESCO/late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Prize to Promote Quality Education for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities 2011, held Wednesday award ceremony, under the patronage and with the presence of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at Kuwait University theater in Khaldiya.
HH the Amir was received by Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Dr. Nayef Falah Al-Hajraf and Kuwait's Representative to the UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Ambassador Dr. Ali Al-Tarrah.
The ceremony was attended by HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, National Assembly Speaker Ahmad Abdulaziz Al-Saadoun, senior sheikhs, Deputy Chief of the Kuwait National Guards Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, HH Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Ahmad Al-Humoud Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and and Deputy Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah and senior state officials.
Minister Al-Hajraf, in a speech at the opening ceremony, said that "Kuwait appreciates the UNESCO achievements in educational, scientific and cultural spheres, as HH the Amir stresses the importance of projects of the organization, which was sponsored by the Kuwaiti Government and the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science." For his part, UNESCO Assistant-Director General for Social and Human Sciences. Dr Hamad Al-Hammami said this award, shows the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah interests in humanitarian area and development, adding that the Director General of UNESCO Irina Bokva announced Dr. Douglas Biklen, from the United States, as a winner.
Dr. Biklen thanked HH the Amir and UNESCO National Commission, Al-Hajraf, jury members of award.
Later, a cultural film about late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah was shown before HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah received a commemorative gift. (end) hs KUNA 291646 Feb 12NNNN
