RIYADH, July 23 (KUNA) -- The arrest of Serb war crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic is "an achievement to the Serbian authorities' credit," said Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) on Wednesday.
In a statement, Ekmeleddin Ihsan Oglu said this is a big step towards restoring order and security and bringing justice for the Muslims of Bosnia and other victims who suffered crimes of war and acts of genocide.
The official expressed hope that others who committed crimes against humanity and acts of ethnic cleansing in the former Yugoslavia would also be arrested to stand trial, so that a new era of conciliation and peaceful co-existence may begin in the Balkans.
With Karadzic's arrest, the world now awaits the arrest of his military commander during the 1992-1995 Serbia and Herzegovina war Ratko Mladic. (end) od.wsa KUNA 231257 Jul 08NNNN
