UNITED NATIONS, July 7 (KUNA) -- Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday strongly condemned yesterday's suicide bombing in front of a police station near the Red Mosque in Islamabad, his spokesperson Michele Montas told the daily press briefing.
The attack claimed the lives of a large number of people, many of them police officers, and injured dozens more.
Montas added that there have also been reports today of a series of explosions in Karachi, that have resulted in more casualties.
"The Secretary-General urges all political forces to unite against the scourge of terrorism and expresses his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government and people of Pakistan," she said.
The blast was to mark the first anniversary of the Palistani army's storming of the Lal Masjid - Red Mosque - last July which also resulted in the deaths of scores of madrassa students and the arrest of many clerics, including Maulana Abdul Aziz. (end) sj.bs KUNA 072119 Jul 08NNNN
