IRBIL, May 19 (KUNA) -- Two Iraqi civilians were killed by armed men, while Iraqi forces released 151 prisoners in the northern city of Mosul on Monday.
An Iraqi police source told KUNA unknown armed men opened fire on Iraqi civilians in Zahra'a area east of Mosul, killing two instantly.
Police also released 151 prisoners, who were captured during two military operations in the city, from Nainona prison, the source added.
The judge who is in charge of the interrogation said the released prisoners had no connections to unrest in the city, the source said.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Kurdistan region said the government here took all the necessary steps to prevent terrorists from infiltrating into the region amid a wide military campaign.
The spokesman noted that there no record of infiltration so far because of tight security measures by police and military in the region. (end) sbr.mb KUNA 192118 May 08NNNN
