KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 (KUNA) -- President of Timor Leste Jose Ramos Horta,
who was shot by rebel troops early Monday, is in a critical but stable
condition, television channels in Timor Leste reported.
The channels quoted the president's spokesman as saying that Horta was
wounded in the stomach and that his condition is stable after undergoing
surgery.
Horta was shot in front of his home in Dili in an attack that led to the
killing of a number of people, a spokesman of Timor Leste's army said.
Horta was a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1996 and was the leader of
the campaign against the Indonesian rule of Timor Leste that started after the
withdrawal of the Portuguese in 1957.
Timor Leste got its independence in 2002.(end)
