CAIRO, Sept 17 (KUNA) -- More than 30 members of the Al-Shabaab militia were killed by the Somali National Army troops in Aboorey area, about 25 kilometers east of Buulo-burde district in central Hiran region, the Somali news agency (SONNA) said on Saturday.
The Somali Armed Forces engaged in a battle with Al-Shabaab "terrorists" in the Aboree area around 2:00 a.m. (local time), said SONNA, monitored in the Egyptian capital. The security forces have successfully carried out an intensive attack after receiving details regarding a "terrorists plot," but army soldiers were injured during the attack.
Aboory area which was recently liberated by the regular forces was an essential location for the "terrorists," who used as a route to cross from the eastern areas and to other parts of the country.
In recent fighting between the government forces along with local community cooperating with the government, more than 150 Al-Shabab militants were killed and many areas were liberated, the SONNA report added.
"The Somali government is grateful to its people who are working closely with the armed forces in the anti-terrorism operations to eliminate terrorism. The government is informing these misguided Al-Shabaab militants that the only way to save themselves is to surrender to the government and become part of their people." Al-Shabab militia is an offshoot of the notorious organization, Al-Qaida. (end) rg.rk
