AMMAN, Jan 28 (KUNA) -- Jordan on Tuesday stressed that a two-state solution is the only method to achieve a permanent and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
The solution will meet the legitimate rights of the Palestinians, mainly their rights to freedom and establish their state on the lines of June 4, 1967, Jordan Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi said in a press statement after the US peace plan had been announced earlier in the day.
This will make Palestinians live in peace and safety side by side with Israel in line with the accredited references and international legitimacy's resolutions, he added.
Concerning Jordan's dealing with the US administration's announcement of the so-called the "deal of the century", Al-Safadi confirmed that Jordan's firm principles and positions on the Palestinian cause, and its supreme national interests specify how to deal with all initiatives and proposals aimed at resolving the cause.
The Palestinian cause has been remaining the central issue of Arabs, he said, indicating that his country is coordinating with other Arab countries on dealing with the next phase within the framework of an Arab consensus.
He warned against the "dangerous" repercussions of any unilateral measure taken by Israel seeking to impose new facts like annexing land, expanding settlements in the occupied Palestinian land and violating the sanctities.
He said such moves "breach international law and push the region towards further tension and escalation".
Jordan as the custodian of the sanctities in the city of Jerusalem will continue devoting all its capabilities to protect the city and its Islamic and Christian sanctities, preserve the historical and legal status, and safeguard its Arab Islamic and Christian identity, he made clear.
Al-Safadi affirmed Jordan's keenness on backing every real effort aiming to achieve a comprehensive and fair peace accepted by nations.
He underlined the necessity of launching serious and direct initiatives to address the final-status issue in line the accredited references, the Arab peace initiative and the international legitimacy's resolutions.
Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump announced a vision on peace between Palestine and Israel.
In his 80-page vision, he spoke about an "undivided" Jerusalem to be a capital of Israel. (end)
