South Korea's president believes Trump, Kim summit before year end

WASHINGTON, Sept 26 (KUNA) -- South Korea's President Moon Jae-in said Tuesday that he looks forward to a summit meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un "in the not too distant future." In an interview with Fox network, Moon noted that he was in Pyongyang last week and had a "very good meeting with Chairman Kim. And through the summit meeting, we had achieved some progress on denuclearization." He added "and I look forward to a summit meeting taking place between Chairman Kim and President Trump in the not too distant future." When asked if it will be held before the end of the year, he replied "yes, I believe so." He stressed that regarding North Korea,"they can only have sanctions relief after denuclearization is completed. And through this, they can have the economic recovery that they are desiring." As for Trump, Moon said "he needs to solve the North Korean nuclear problem. And this is a problem that nobody has been able to solve in the decades past. So through this, he will be able to have a major achievement." Furthermore, he affirmed that Chairman Kim "has unwavering trust and expectations" for Trump and he "actually wants to achieve the complete denuclearization of North Korea with President Trump within his first term in office." "So in order to make progress, he wants to have the second U.S.-North Korea summit as soon as possible," he reiterated.
On Monday, Trump said that he will have a second summit with Kim "in the not too distant future" at a location which has yet to be determined. (end) si.tg
