Iraqi court sentences senior IS leader to death

BAGHDAD, Sept 19 (KUNA) -- An Iraqi court issued Wednesday a death sentence against a senior so-called Islamic State (IS) leader for terrorism-related charges, the supreme judicial council said.
The criminal court in Al-Karkh sentenced Ismail Aithawi, an Iraqi national, to death by hanging, council spokesman Abdulsattar Birqadar said in a statement.
Aithawi, he said, was in charge of Fatwa in IS and member of a team writing cirrucula for the IS members.
Aithawi, who was IS leader Abu Baker Al-Baghdadi's deputy, fled to Syria and then to Turkey after IS lost many territories in Syria. He was arrested in Turkey. (end) ahh.bs
