Lebanon, Iraq discuss Arab-Arab disputes ahead of summit

BAGHDAD, Feb 20 (KUNA) -- Iraqi President Fuad Masum on Tuesday hosted the visiting Lebanese President Michel Aoun discussing prospects of settling differences among some Arab countries.
Speaking at a news conference after the meeting, Aoun said he discussed with the Iraqi president efforts to "make serious conciliation among the sisterly states" ahead of the next Arab summit, due in Saudi Arabia.
President Aoun added that the discussions with his Iraqi counterpart touch on escalatory Israeli threats against Lebanon, adding that he agreed with president Masum on necessity to exert Arab and international efforts to fight terrorism effectively.
Tension has recently mounted between Beirut and Tel Aviv after the Israelis questioned the Lebanese sovereignty over a block presumed to be rich in oil and gas in the seawaters off the southern Lebanese shores and northern Israel.
The Lebanese Government has been also campaigning against Israel's plan to build a huge fence along the Lebanese-Israeli borders. (end) ahh.rk
