Russia calls for restraint in Mideast

MOSCOW, Feb 10 (KUNA) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin called on Saturday for restraint in the Middle East, after Israel launched airstrikes against military sites southern Syria in the wake of an Israeli jet crash.
Putin called for restraint during a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the developments following the Israeli air raids on positions in Syria, the presidential press office said in a statement.
It did not provide further details.
An Israeli F-16 fighter jet was reportedly downed by the Syrian air defenses earlier today. The airman ejected before the crash.
