US panel blocks 300 pct tariffs on Canadian jets

WASHINGTON, Jan 26 (KUNA) -- The US International Trade Commission voted unanimously on Friday in favor of the Canadian plane maker Bombardier by blocking a move to impose tariffs of almost 300 percent.
The commission argued that Bombardier's shipment of C series jets to Delta Air Lines won't hurt the American economy or its workers.
The vote is a blow to Boeing, the American aerospace giant, which claimed Bombardier unfairly benefited from government bailout subsidies and allows the C Series planes to be sold at "absurdly low prices." Bombardier said in a statement, "Today's decision is a victory for innovation, competition, and the rule of law. It is also a victory for US airlines and the US traveling public." (end) ak.bs
