Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Saad Al-Kharraz
KUWAIT, Jan 15 (KUNA) -- Kuwait has cut a long path in providing due care for the elderly, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Saad Al-Kharraz.
The country has been devoting all potential to guarantee health, social, economic and psychological care for the old people, Al-Kharraz told a forum marking the 2017 International Day for Older Persons, organized by the Elderly Care Department in cooperation with the Jaber Al-Ali Alzheimer Society.
The event was themed "Alzheimer at home."
The ministry has been giving top priority to old people, offering them all types of services, and means for dignified living, he stressed.
Al-Kharraz told reporter on the sidelines of the event that the ministry's development plan is proceeding "on schedule."
In line with the plan, the ministry intends to broaden the scope of elderly care teams, in line with the plan.
He praised the effective role of the public benefit societies, among them Jaber Al-Ali Alzheimer, backing the ministry's efforts, noting that mobile care teams rose from 14 to 26 in 18 months.
Meanwhile, today's forum concluded a host of recommendations related to the disease, topped with increasing awareness campaigns on Alzheimer, with focus on early symptoms and diagnosis, besides prevention of dementia diseases.
Participants called for further cooperation among the Ministries of Health, Justice, and Information, and the Kuwait Public Institution for Social Security (PISS) on a national unified awareness plan. (end)
