AMMAN, Jan 12 (KUNA) -- The Jordanian government Friday lashed out at a recent Israeli decision to build more settlements in occupied Palestinian territories, as a breach of international law.
Jordanian State Minister for Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson Mohammed Momani said the Israeli government's approval for the construction of 1,122 new settlement units in occupied Palestinian territories, not to mention planned tenders for more 651 units, constitutes a violation of international law.
This behavior shows that Israel does not believe in the two-state solution or a peaceful solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the minister said in a press statement.
Israeli settlement activities are illegal and unacceptable, and pose a direct menace to the regional peace process and defiance of the international community and relevant international resolutions, he lamented.
The UN Security Council Resolution 2334 is a clear expression of international consensus in this regard, the Jordanian minister noted.
The Israeli Civil Administration on Thursday endorsed building new 250 settlement houses in the West Bank.
Some 200 houses will be set up in the settlement of Oranit, and 50 in Petzael. (end)
