Egypt to hold presidential elections next March

CAIRO, Jan 8 (KUNA) -- Egypt will hold presidential elections on March 26-28, and a runoff in April, head of National Electoral Authority (NEA) Lasheen Ibrahim said on Monday.
Speaking at a news conference, he said the Egyptian expats would vote in the elections on March 16-18, while the voting at home will be held on March 26-28.
He added that a runoff will be held on April 24-26 if no candidate secures more than 50 percent of the vote.
He noted that the provisional list of candidates and the numbers of their supporters will be published" in state-run newspapers Al-Ahram and Al-Akhbar on January 31.
He revealed that the detailed timetable of procedures of presidential elections include the reception of applications for candidacy from January 20 to January 29.
The authority is set to get requests for nominations from January 20-29 in its headquarters on downtown Cairo, he stressed.
Ibrahim indicated that the official list of candidates is set to be announced on February 23, 2018.
He pointed out that the authority will also accept official complaints on February 7 and rule on them on February 9.
The results of the first round will be announced on April 2, and the final results on May 1. (end) esm.hm
