Kuwait's FM: Kuwait supports political, peaceful solution to Yemen crisis

KUWAIT, Dec 26 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said on Tuesday that Kuwait advocates a political solution to Yemen in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2216 and the GCC initiative and its executive mechanism through the national dialogue in which all Yemenis have participated.
"We and our brothers in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have tried since the first day of the Yemeni crisis to find a Gulf initiative and its mechanisms," Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said in response to a parliamentary question during the regular session of parliament, adding that work towards achieving such endeavor has been made, however, those who have undermined such efforts were responsible for steering Yemen towards such a steep.
He pointed out that the State of Kuwait at that time took the initiative of the Gulf Cooperation Council when he was the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kuwait in Sana'a in 2014 to celebrate with Yemenis outputs of the national dialogue.
"What we want for Yemen is for the Gulf initiative which has two stations to be completed, including the Constitution and the elections to reach safety," he said. (end).
