Arab League condemns US veto on UNSC Jerusalem draft resolution

CAIRO, Dec 19 (KUNA) -- The Arab League condemned Tuesday the US veto of an Arab-proposed draft resolution regarding the status of Jerusalem.
Speaking to the press, Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul-Gheit said that the US objection to 14 nations voting in favor of the resolution reflected Washington's support of the Israeli illegitimate claims over Jerusalem.
Arab nations and their partners will be heading to the UN General Assembly to back up a resolution that approves of the Palestinians' right in choosing their own fate.
Similarly, head of Palestinian and occupied Arab lands affairs at the League Saeed Abu Ali said that the US decision would negatively affect America's international reputation.
The international status of Jerusalem clearly indicated that Israel had no claim over the city and the world will continue to oppose both the US and Israel over this issue, said the Arab diplomat.
Late Monday, the US vetoed an Arab-proposed resolution at the UNSC, which called for forbidding international diplomatic missions from moving to Jerusalem.
This veto came less than two weeks from US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and move the American embassy to the city. (end) mfm.gta
