OIC lawmakers' cmte slams US recognition of Jerusalem as Israeli capital

TEHRAN, Dec 18 (KUNA) -- An Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Parliamentary Union committee expressed rejection of the US administration's move to declare Jerusalem as Israel's capital, describing it as a blatant aggression on the Palestinian people's rights.
In its final communique after urgent talks, the 'Palestine Committee' said President Donald Trump's plans to relocate the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem increases tension, violence and chaos in the region.
The OIC Parliamentary Union Palestine Committee, which met in Tehran on Monday, included lawmakers from the host nation, Iran, along with Algeria, Chad, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Mali, Palestine, Senegal and Turkey.
The committee urged governments, parliaments and non-government organisations to coordinate support for the legal rights of the Palestinian people at regional and international meetings.
The document said that ensuring Palestinian legitimate rights would only be achieved through the return of all refugees, an end to Israeli occupation and Palestinian statehood with Jerusalem as a capital.
Jerusalem is an inseparable part of Palestinian land, added the committee, which fiercely condemned Israel's ongoing attacks on Jerusalem and its Judaization of holy sites in the ancient city.
Furthermore, the talks backed the Palestinian people's "legal and legitimate" right to resist in all forms until the achievement of their full rights, return of all refugees and establishment of an independent state. (end) fz.sd
