Tunisian FM: Kuwait to actively advocate Arab, Islamic issues at UNSC

BELGRADE (Serbia), Dec 15 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's two-year term as a non-permanent member of the UNSC, as of January 2018, will help advocate the Arab and Muslim issues, with Jerusalem on top, Tunisia's Foreign Minister Khemis Al-Jahnawi said.
Speaking to KUNA the sidlines of his visit to Serbia on Friday, Al-Jahnawi stressed Kuwait's leading and effective role on the Arab scene, referring to its tireless efforts to push "brothers in the Gulf" to overcome their differences through dialogue.
Tunisia has always welcomed the constructive role of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who has perpetually been a "voice of reason and wisdom," he said.
Meanwhile, the Tunisian chief diplomat said that the stance adopted by the extraordinary Islamic summit in Istanbul, Turkey, Wednesday, has displayed resolute and determination by participant states rejecting any unilateral move on Jerusalem.
Jerusalem has had a notable legal status in place since 1947, Al-Jahnawi pointed out.
The city has its great importance not only for Palestinians or Arabsm but also for the world's Muslims and Christians, he noted.
Jerusalem's future has to be determined through talks among the relevant states and not through a unilateral move, he stressed.
For his part, Serbia's Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic reaffirmed his country's stance in support of an everlasting and just political solution between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
The conflict between both sides is so complicated and cannot be dissolved through unilateral steps, he said.
Dacic called for a serious and constructive dialogue between the two sides.
He reiterated Belgrade's firm stance on Jerusalem, saying that Serbia does not intend at all to move its embassy in Israel to the city.
He shared the view that the status of Jerusalem has to be determined through negotiations between the two sides. (end) amg.msa
