ISTANBUL, Dec 13 (KUNA) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday that the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit's message to the US is it made the "wrong decision" to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
"I believe with this historic summit, we showed the world, as well as decision-makers, that Jerusalem has not been abandoned," Erdogan told a press conference after the urgent talks.
Turkey and the Muslim nations around the world, "once again confirm that we have rejected the decision of the American administration," said Erdogan.
He underlined that it was now unfeasible that the US could play mediator in any plans for an Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
"We expect the American authorities to revoke this wrong decision as soon as possible," he said, adding Jerusalem was a "red line" and that US President Donald Trump's move has "no value." The Turkish leader said that, during discussions with Arab, Muslim and European leaders, it was agreed that the move would have severe consequences, would bring forth further problems and would give a boost to Israeli extremists.
At the same press conference, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas reiterated that the Palestinians do "not want American mediation anymore," saying Washington was no longer neutral.
"The mediator has to be neutral, not biased or one-sided," Abbas told the news conference.
Alongside the two officials, OIC Secretary General Yousef Al-Othaimeen called on the international community to recognize Palestinian as a state with a capital of Jerusalem, adding there were plans for some of them to do so.
The US decision was taken unilaterally, said Al-Othaimeen, and would not change the facts. (pickup previous) rs.sd
