UAE, Saudi Arabia, UK, US back political process in Yemen

ABU DHABI, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- UAE, Saudi Arabia, UK and US have reiterated support to UN Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed's efforts to find a political solution in Yemen.
This came during a meeting of the Quartet Committee on Yemen in Abu Dhabi, chaired by UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdullah bin Zayed, Emirate News Agency (WAM) reported.
The meeting was attended by Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir, UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, US Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Timothy Linder King.
During the meeting, the ministers assessed the situation in Yemen in light of violent measures carried out by Houthi militias trying to impose their control over the Yemeni capital, as well as ways to enhance humanitarian support throughout the country, the agency added.
They also discussed Iran's support for Houthi militias, which they said is dragging the war and undermining political efforts in this war-torn country, it said.
Furthermore, the agreed to hold their meetings periodically, with the next meeting scheduled for the first quarter of 2018. (end) bs.mt
