BRUSSELS, Dec 5 (KUNA) -- EU High Representative Federica Mogherini and the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson discussed here on Tuesday the situation in Palestine, Iran, Syria among other topics.
The EU supports the resumption of a meaningful peace process towards a two-state solution to resolve the Palestine question, Mogherini. told a press conference after the meeting.
"We believe that any action that undermines these efforts must absolutely be avoided. A way must be found to resolve the future status of Jerusalem as the future capital of both states," she stressed, and added that she will discuss this with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his visit to Brussels next week.
The two sides also discussed the implementation of the Iran nuclear deal, said the EU foreign policy chief, adding that there are other issues that "we need to discuss but outside the scope of the nuclear deal." "The EU is willing to work closely with the US on all these issues on the basis of continued US implementation of the nuclear deal," she said.

On his part, Tillerson told the joint press conference: "our shared objective of defeating ISIS is important but not just defeating ISIS in Iraq and Syria but defeating ISIS globally." He called on Iran to implement the nuclear deal but noted that "Iran is carrying out a number of destabilizing actions in the region." "We have seen this with the ballistic missiles fired from Yemen which our belief is the source from Iran, their support for the Houthis and the destabilizing effect that has in Yemen," he said.
Tillerson accused Iran of exporting weapons to militia in areas of conflict, of supporting Hezbollah, "a terrorist organization." "These issues and activities of Iran cannot be ignored and cannot go unanswered and we intend to continue to take action to ensure that Iran understands that this is not acceptable to us," stressed the US' top diplomat.
"We look forward to working with our European partners on these issues as it is a threat to many of our shared values," he added.
