Arab League voices concern over US plans to move embassy to Jerusalem

CAIRO, Dec 2 (KUNA) -- The Arab League on Saturday voiced deep concern over the reported US Administration's plans to move its embassy from Tel Avivi to Jerusalem, thus recognizing the occupied city as capital of Israel.
"The Arab League is following the details of this issue because if it happens, it will have important ramifications not only on the political situation but security and stability in the area and the world," Secretary General Ahmad Abul Gheit said in a statement to reporters.
"We regret the fact that some are trying to accomplish this step regardless of its dangerous impacts on the stability of the Middle East and the world," he added.
Abul Gheit said they have encouraged the US administration to work on resuming the Israel-Palestinian political settlement track, but moving the embassy would not serve peace but incite "extremism and violence, and this will only benefit one party who is the Israeli government." He said the Arab League was coordinating with the Palestinian government and Arab countries over this issue. (end) mfm.bs
