Arab League strongly condemns Egypt's mosque attack

CAIRO, Nov 24 (KUNA) -- The Arab League has strongly condemned the "terrorist" attack that targeted a mosque in Egypt's North Sinai Governorate on Friday, killing and wounding scores of "innocent" worshippers.
In a statement, the League's Secretary General Ahmad Abul-Gheit voiced full solidarity with the Egyptian government in the "internecine war" against terrorism that targets the country's security and stability.
Expressing condolences to the Egyptian government and people, Abul-Gheit said that the heinous crime demonstrates that Islam is innocent of those who adopt such extremist and terrorist ideology.
He stressed that the perpetrators of such crimes, individuals or groups, are seeking to terrorize safe people and destroy communities. They were stripped of all human principles and values, as they targeted innocent worshippers.
The Arab states and governments have to proceed with faster and more serious and effective steps for coordinating efforts and procedures to counter the escalating danger of terrorism, and the extremist thinking of the organizations that embrace that dark ideology that contradicts true religion, League chief stressed.
Official sources said that at least 155 people were killed, and 120 others wounded in the attack that hit a mosque in a village of Al-Arish city, capital of North Sinai. (end) mfm.hdr.msa
